*This spindle has had a counterweight added for balance which is only visible on the underside of the whorl. See next to last photo*
The wood for this spindle came from a local Cedar tree that was knocked down by hurricane Ian. Crack lines are present in the whorl; they have been filled with either stabilizing resin or CA glue to ensure that the whorl is solid and sturdy. This is a whorl that comes from the first batch of colored, stabilized, pieces I did; I thought that all of those whorls were gone, but I recently found this one. I experimented with applying the dye directly to the wood and then submerging it in clear resin which created a patchy, streaky, color presentation that I really like. Unfortunately, it can only be done one time with a clear resin base because the dye then becomes fully colored and subsequent batches will create solidly colored pieces of wood.
