Bleached Wenge Tibetan Support Spindle
When Wenge is bleached, the darker lines of grain remain untouched, but the lighter parts are affected by the bleach. The effect is permanent, but does not penetrate very deeply into the wood, so the underside of the whorl has its natural coloring because material was removed after bleaching to achieve the desired thickness. You can also see the natural color of the wood on the top of the whorl where it meets the shaft because material was removed post bleaching to create the smoothly tapered join. In this piece you have both the natural beauty of Wenge as well as the altered appearance caused by the bleaching.
