{"title":"Supported Spindles","description":"\u003cp\u003eUnless otherwise specified, all supported spindles feature a Dymalux (resin stabilized Birch plywood) shaft which reduces wear to the spinning tip and provides strength to the tapered shaft. All supported spindles are rigorously tested for spin and balance. They often feature a counterweight in the whorl to compensate for natural weight imbalances in the wood. Unless otherwise specified, the counterweight is always placed in the underside of the whorl, and great efforts are made to camouflage the placement of the counterweight so that it blends in as much as possible. Crack lines are present in the whorl; they have been filled with either stabilizing resin or CA glue to ensure that the whorl is solid and sturdy. This is a whorl that comes from the first batch of colored, stabilized, pieces I did; I thought that all of those whorls were gone, but I recently found this one. I experimented with applying the dye directly to the wood and then submerging it in clear resin which created a patchy, streaky, color presentation that I really like.
